The selection process for the university ombudsman is coming to an end, with an online application for working from home, and an Easter morning for children of university employees. These and other advances in work-life balance, equal opportunities, and social security at UP were helped along by the survey Do you enjoy going to work? conducted two and a half years ago. University employees have until December 15 to participate in the follow-up questionnaire.
In the spring of 2023, more than 1,200 university employees shared their joys and sorrows about working at Palacký University in a survey.
What did the previous survey reveal?
"It was a truly representative sample of the wishes and needs of our employees, which allowed us to focus on specific areas of employee life and comfort at UP," says Markéta Šupplerová, head of the UP Human Resources Department.
"We are currently selecting a university-wide ombudsman, managers were trained in flexible forms of work in the previous period, and a remote work agreement was introduced. During this year's Easter holidays, UP held an event called Children Welcome!, where the children of our employees could spend their holiday morning enjoying an interesting program, have lunch in the canteen, and their parents worked remotely for the rest of the day," Veronika Fousková from Human Resources Department lists.
A new website for the Human Resources Department was also launched to facilitate orientation in personnel processes, and the Fair University brand was created. On its website, UP employees can find, for example, a methodology for dealing with workplace bullying, other manuals and methodologies for dealing with undesirable behavior, information on equal opportunities, social security, and work-life balance under the heading Family Friendly UP. Junior UP female scientists meet regularly at Breakfasts with Science.
How can you share your current suggestions?
In a recently launched ongoing anonymous questionnaire, which takes about 10-15 minutes to complete, the UP Human Resources Department, in cooperation with the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, is investigating how the measures implemented so far have improved working conditions at Palacký University, work-life balance, career growth and professional development opportunities, and helped prevent discrimination in the workplace.
"Of course, the previous survey revealed a number of suggestions and employee needs that we have not yet been able to fully implement, for example due to administrative, financial, or space constraints. That is why we would be very happy if employees mentioned them again in the next round of the survey, so that we can focus our attention and the university's strategy on them even more intensively," explains Šupplerová.
