After almost three years, the UP academic community will elect its university senators. Students and academics can nominate new or returning members of the UP Academic Senate (AS UP) for any of the faculties from February 3 to 19, 2026. The elections to the university's key self-governing body will take place online in mid-March. All further details can be found at upol.cz/elections.

Candidates from among teachers and students can be nominated by members of the academic community using a form (available at upol.cz/elections), signed by the proposed candidate, and submitted to the chair of the sub-election committee at their faculty.

"The Academic Senate elections represent a unique opportunity to influence the future of our university, defend academic values, freedom of research, quality of teaching, and open dialogue between students and teachers. The nomination of candidates is the first and fundamental step in the entire election process. It is an opportunity to propose individuals who are interested in actively participating in the administration of the university. I therefore call on everyone to actively participate in the nomination process, either by proposing suitable candidates or by standing as a candidate themselves," says Irena Smolová, chair of the current AS UP, adding that a broad and high-quality spectrum of candidates is a prerequisite for meaningful elections and a strong, legitimate Academic Senate at Palacký University in Olomouc.

Elections to the university's "grand senate" will then take place from March 11 to 18, 2026. Once again, all UP students and academics will be able to vote electronically. All details, including all dates, the chairpersons of the election commissions at the faculties, and subsequently the list of candidates, can be found at upol.cz/elections.

Each faculty is represented in the university senate by two academics and one student, for a total of 24 members. The term of office of the new UP Academic Senate will begin on May 16, 2026, and end on May 15, 2029.
