Due to the current UP Faculty of Health Sciences Dean being recently elected as UP Rector, the UP FHS Academic Senate has to choose a new dean. The name of the new dean, or respectively the new candidate for the post of FHS Dean, should be announced on 11 June.

Prof Martin Procházka, the new UP Rector, is due to take office on 1 May. Jiří Vévoda, Vice-Dean for Science and Research and Life-long Education at UP FHS, will become the interim dean on that day. “We decided that the new dean should be elected as soon as possible for the transitional period to be as short as possible and for the new faculty leadership to have enough time to prepare for the winter semester,” said Lukáš Merz, chair of the UP FHS Academic Senate.

A six-member special election commission has been appointed to elect the new dean, with Martin Šamaj of the Department of Healthcare Management as its chair. Members of the FHS academic community can hand in their written proposals for candidates to Šamaj until noon on 14 May. On 17 May, an alphabetical list of the candidates will be posted on the Official Notice Board of the FHS after verification of the requirements; the candidates’ platforms will then be posted on 31 May.

An FHS academic community gathering with the candidates’ presentations is scheduled for 7 June at 3 pm. Academic staff, students, and other interested parties will be informed about the format given the current Covid-19 situation in due time. The choice of candidate for the new dean will take place on 11 June at 9 am. More detailed information about the election schedule can be found here.

“This faculty will always be my home and I hope to return one day. Teaching midwifery is something really near and dear to me,” said Prof Procházka, who said his goodbyes to the senators and thanked them for all their hard work and cooperation, asking them to choose his successor wisely.
